Daniel Capps conducts the University of London Symphony Orchestra in a programme of German, French and Finnish music. Opening with the Royal Hunt and Storm overture from Berlioz’s largest work, the opera Les Troyens, the programme continues with the lyrical and witty Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche, Strauss’ tone poem charting the ‘merry pranks’ of the Bavarian folk hero. The evening is concluded with the rather more abstract Symphony No. 5 by Sibelius, with its shifting textures and rhythms leading to the climactic swan call in the final movement.
